This is another of the best quality Mini-Plane models. This one features turrets with guns, movable landing gear and a great big bomb bay with opening doors. The heavy bomb load was the Lancaster's biggest claim to fame as it carried 8,000 pounds of bombs. That was good for the time, that time being WWII. Plus it could carry especially large bombs for special missions. Check out photo #3 for the big bomb bay
The armament on these planes was normally 9 .303 caliber machine guns. The model shows 2 in the rear turret but the number was 4. This would be about the caliber of the typical hunting rifle. Much less armament than the American bombers but the Lancaster fought normally at night so the guns less important.
The Lancaster first flew on missions in 1942 and was the main British heavy bomber of the war. I am sure there is a good reason why the underside is painted yellow.
Nice one and excellent detailing!!
Another nice Mini, lively colors also. I built both of the Revell 1/72 kits as a youth the conventional Lancaster like this and the Dam Buster version. As you said it was a heavy hauler and could carry the massive grand slam and the other huge bombs made for hardened targets like the Uboat pens.
Thank you very much Scott.
Thank you very much Toyrebel. Yes carried many big bombs. I think it was the Tall B oy they used on Tirpitz, another Lancaster raid.
Thank you
