Hello I have this silver item and I am wondering if someone has a idea of what they think it is, I think it might be a pendant of some sort

Whatever it is, I love it! It’s had to imagine it’s purpose without measurements so will you post them, please?
You didn't give dimensions or mention if one end comes off. However, my 2 cents would say it is an antique match safe for wooden sulfur tip matches.
Is it to keep a loaf of bread fresh ?

Wooden match would be 36 to 48 mm so they would fit if this opens.

Just seen some Val amulet pendants,
You should look into Persian , Turkoman, Middle East religious pendants, these would contain sacred script on a bit of paper, and have other decorative pieces hanging on the hooks. The only reason I know is one of my silver jewelry books, has a chapter about pretty much all the different country's collectible jewelry from East to West.
Showing pieces you might come across, this one is called a prayer box that hangs from a pendant and worn on a chain. Here is a google example.
