Interesting dresser? Sideboard?

Trying to identify the style and date of this beautiful bureau. Think it is burled walnut. The top is curved and hinged. Drawers look to be hand-cut dovetail joints but dresser is machine-made, given the symmetry of the decoration and brass hardware. Carvings of drapes on wood perfectly match brass drawer pulls. Carved trim on wood is accented with gold paint/gilt. It’s a mystery to me. Any ideas?
