We were lucky to purchase a nice set of majolica rabbit plates and mugs. These are made by the french firm Choisy-le-Roi around 1900 (and are marked accordingly), and subsequently sold by the well-known Higgins & Seiter china and glass store in New York City (back stamped). They display rabbits, young and adult, in a wide-range of different natural poses, grazing on radishes and cabbages, hopping around, and fleeing some unknown threat. The plates came in six different designs, shown in the second picture; and the mugs featured a single style, although they sport an impressive rabbit handle. So fun....
Such pretty bunny images, so realistic the way some scenes show them in multiples
Newfld, thank you for your comment! We too were drawn to the realistic depictions of the rabbits in various garden/pastoral settings. Choisy-le-Roi also made a similar series of plates featuring ducks, chickens, roosters, etc. in similar country-side locales.
These are so beautiful! I love everything about them.
Love the handles on the mugs - also the rabbits on the plates are very realistic.
Was also going to say - I think you have the best of the series!!
jscott0363 and Gillian, thank you. We do love this set and continually see new detail in all the pieces.
