This little shaker style box is signed with a '2"Sowers 2009'. i'm not sure what that means, but it's a very nicely made little box with copper nails and two fingers.

A bit off for a Shaker but certainly Shaker style. You could contact the Shaker Museum at 288 Shaker Rd, Canterbury, NH 03224 and ask them to cross reference the name with their records. Many times the younger Shakers left the main group and launched out on their own to produce their own products. While the product might well be different it is nonetheless Shaker made. Their nested boxes and chairs were commonly produced by those who left the main community. The folks at the museum are really nice and seem to be always willing to help when they can.

Hello, That is a nice piece, most I have seen are oval. Does the 2 represent the size? Regards, Lou

thank you fhrjr2 - i think that being made in 2009, this is definitely Shaker Style. I grew up near Canterbury and my aunt was the director of the Shaker Museum there, so i'm very familiar with it. I remember when i was really young in the late 60s, we went to an auction there soon after the last member had passed away. Thank you Iptools! yes, i think that the 2 is for 2 inches.

slept there and ate there a few times while hiking around springfield ,eastmans ...and have there books ... nice box, to bad there all dead....just care takers and some so called visting shakers helpers to make boxes Shakers were celibate; procreation was forbidden after they joined the society (except for women who were already pregnant at admission). Children were added to their communities through indenture, adoption, or conversion
