I bought a small jewelry box. I suspect but I'm not one hundred percent sure that the material used is red coral?
It looks like red coral but is there a way to test it?

Did you get the required CITES certificate with it when you bought it? You can test it by putting a drop of fresh real lemon juice on the bottom out of sight. If it fizzes up it is real, if not it is fake.
Unfortunately you hardly get a cites certificates if you buy things on the fleamarkets around my area
I will try lemon juice the next days, thanks for the tip

Valentino97, it is short form of; Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species. The certificate or permit simply indicates that it is legal to own, transfer to others etc. including travel between countries. The certificate is supposed to remain with the individual piece. Keep in mind not all species are endangered or require the permit. Last I was aware red coral required the permit. It also applies to plants and animals. For instance an ivory tusk. The reason I suspect this is not actually red coral is because it is the most expensive coral and looking at this it would be quite heavy and have a value in the hundreds of thousands of dollars and hardly a flea market find.
Dear fhrjr2
You might be right that this is not coral, unfortunately I have forgotten to buy a lemon.... But you are wrong with what you can find on fleamarkets.
My best finds on fleamarkets has been sold for a lot of money.
My personal record is 6500eur for a Chinese vase that cost me 30euros, a muranovase I've sold last year for 4500eur and paid 80eur, two harry bertoia benches I've bought on fleamarkets. The first for 10eur and the second for 20eur, and so on
You can find everything on fleamarkets ....
Vinegar works just as well to test for coral. If it's coral, you immediately see bubbles.
