We uncovered this a short time ago and would like to know what it is. I was told it was a lady's dance card holder and we have a long family connection to Mardi Gras balls in New Orleans. However, the "window" through which a card would be visible appears to be only about 2" x 2", pretty small. It could be a favor given to a lady after a dance with a masked crewe member at a ball. But what would be the practical use?
