I'm hoping someone knowledgeable can help identify where this beautiful little vase was made. It looks Native American to me, however, another vase I thought was Native American ended up actually being from Mexico (which I learned from an expert here on Collectors Weekly). So, I'm back again to ask for help with this one.

It's small -- about 4" high and 3-3/4" diameter. Made out of dark brown, almost black clay, which appears to be burnished rather than glazed. From what I can tell, the design seems to have been etched into the clay and then either white paint or powder was added into the lines to make them stand out.

Not Native American. It appears to be Chorotega pottery, from Costa Rica, based on the dark brown/almost black clay and incised white designs.

I had previously discounted that pottery because it usually has a lot of red--not simple black & white coloring, like this vase. But, based on your reply, I went back and did some more research. I did find some Chorotega pottery that looks very similar!!

You are the person who helped me last time and you did it again. Both times, I've learned something that helps now and in the future. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise.
