This is probably from India - early 20th c or late 19th c would be my guess. the tail moves backwards and forwards for some reason? it screwed into something. i'll have to find something to screw it into.
i think this is part of a lamp.
Someone just gave me a big bunch of peacock tail feathers. I used my blue umbrella stand as a “vase” so I could display them like a bouquet.
The way your peacock’s tail has the moveable part with perforations, I’m wondering if you could insert some real peacock tail feathers thru the perforations. Then when the moveable part is folded down, it has the appearance of a “relaxed” peacock almost dragging his tail feathers.
Then, when you move that part to the upright position, you have the peacock displaying, “strutting his stuff” for the ladies.
You should try that if you just happen to have a bunch of tail feathers lying around....and you have so much neat stuff, I’m thinking you just might!
P.S.—you would have to trim the feathers way down so you just retain the fabulous distal end.
Thanks Watchsearcher! i just so happen to have a big bunch of them right in front of me, but even cut down, they would be way too big for this little guy. i saw a few just like this from oil lamps from India.
I thought they looked like items from India. Oil lamps and feathers wouldn’t go together very well. :-)
slight problem! but they might burn brighter!
