I have researched this bed for years. I know what it is, a what it was used for, and I find many similar in style. I am still trying to figure out who made it, and where it was made (possibly Indiana?) I have only seen one other bed with stained glass inserts (located in Nashville, TN).
We actually own two cabinet beds. I believe the other bed that we have is more of a mass produced version "in the style of" this one. In past research, I believe I saw something about Sears selling cabinet beds via catalog. This particular bed is MUCH heavier and is definitely more ornate than our other.
Antique Murphy Style Cabinet Folding Hide A Bed
Solid quarter sawn oak construction
Ornate Carved Details
Removable full width top cabinet features latching doors, center mirror, and stained glass panels on cabinet doors.
Wheels on the base for transportation.
Utterly fantastic!
Not sure if you'll see this 3 years later, but check the inside of the side rails next to the hinges. Look for lightly carved (almost scratched in) roman numerals. They would designate a model number. It was used by the A H Andrews company, which had over 40 different models of parlor or cabinet folding beds.
