Hello can anyone help me out? I purchased this chest at a barn sale. The man I bought it from told me HE brought it back from West Africa. Yet the theme on this hand carved chest seems to be Chinese. I would also like to know how much the chest is worth. It is 15" tall 29" long and 14" deep. It is beautifully carved on all 4 sides and the top. The only issue with the chest is the bottom is broken. Should I repair it or leave it as is?
Thank you for any info you can give me.

If you read the rules you would be aware this is not where to ask about values. The link at the top of the page where it says APPRAISAL is the proper place for that.

As for where it originated, could be a number of places. Back in the 80's India and Taiwan both flooded the market with this type item.

I don't believe that it's that old, seems to be some what incomplete as far as the carving goes, oriental theme, your not going to hurt anything by repairing the bottom, and yes these were reproduced by the above mentioned.
