This is a very large piece of Thai silk - probably a sarong for a man or woman. Last year, the Goodwill near me converted to a bin-style sales floor and right after the transition, they were emptying out some really old and interesting containers of fabrics, textiles and clothes. There were around 150-200 people in there all the time and it was crazy. I'd go in every afternoon for as long as i could take it [about 20 min] and leave with a big bag of textiles to carry 10 blocks home to my house. I just packed them all into my old suitcases and forgot about most of them. Tonight, i went through them and took photos of just a few of them. There are SO MANY and some very interesting ones too.
If you ever get to Thailand go to one of their festivals. It is amazing the sights you will see. I went to the Wat Traimitr Witayaram Worawihan temple which houses a huge Buddha that weighs 5.5 tons and is solid gold. The festival there was really something. The girl I was with and I got arrested and thrown in jail (same cell together). It was against the law to hold hands where we were. Eventually we were taken in front of a judge and he let us off with a warning. That wasn't much fun. Had to be 20 people in that one cell, no toilet, no sink, no place to sit, just wall to wall people.
wow! that's quite the experience fhrjr2! i've been to that wat before. my favorite festival is Songkran - the water festival - although it can be dangerous if you're riding around on a motorcycle!
