This 2" scorpion brooch has two large round genuine jade eyes (as tagged), a real gemstone set in costume goldtone that I have only seen previously in Swoboda jewelry, this one by Hobe ca 1950s-1960s. Paired with a 4" sculpted teal glass Scorpio paperweight by Blenko Glass w/ vintage label.
Happy birthday to all CW Scorpios, many friends incl AntiqueRose, Ken-Broochman & not to forget teddy bear lover Laura-Betweenthelens who I hope returns to visit us

Very cool items- the blue scorpion looks like some kind of ancient scorpion symbol on a temple or something? And the brooch has such great big green eyes and very curled looking feet/claws?! They're such interesting if not slightly terrifying little creatures anyway but I find they do happen to make such interesting jewellery pieces.

Lol Karen, yep these are rather deadly critters, but they have a lot of cool symbolism in astrology, Scorpios are quite powerful & never cross one or look out! Thanks for the great comment
Ken my Scorpio friend, very glad you enjoyed this combo post, the Blenko zodiac series always has great images, and I thought the Hobe Scorpio was kinda neat and different (and according to that "pin" site pretty rare). Hope you had or will have a super BD, appreciate the kind words always
Eileen I am so grateful for the wonderful praise, yes the Hobe was a rare find for me and I love those big jade eyes, sort of illuminates the power of the scorpion yet it's a pretty piece, and I'm a big fan of the Blenko paperweights love that one side is sculpted & the other shows the clear image
Thanks Lauren for the super compliments & descriptions, I agree the paperweight has rather a classic symbolic scorpion image, and the brooch has those curled legs that give it the appearance of crawling! Notice also there is a Chinese character in a circle attached to the bottom, rather an exotic touch, it could be the scorpion name or maybe some luck was attached to it, wish I knew the translation
Mary I think your BD was last month, hope you had a fantastic one & of course I would not forget my good Scorpio friend. This Hobe piece was a great find, there are other classic Scorpio brooches out there (they wanted like five bills for a vintage DeNicola, it's awesome with lucite & rhinestones) and I hope you find a nice one, or there's always next yr I will try to find another goodie 4 U! I am a Sagittarius but born in the Sag-Capricorn month of Dec
