Twenty years or so ago the company I work for installed a new pipe organ at the Cathedral Church of St. Augustine in Kalamazoo, MI. Part of the work involved re-engineering the existing "case" (a term we generally use to describe the exterior appearance of an organ, which covers all the myriad other working parts within and makes everything look pretty) so that its display pipes would be actually functional. (whereas before, they were all only decorative in nature) The ultimate goal was to install the new organ such that it's "look" didn't really change much at all, and we essentially achieved that end to everybody's satisfaction. :-) The original instrument (thus its original case, including these panels) was built and installed there by the distinguished firm of Casavant-Freres in St. Hyacinthe, Quebec, Canada in the early 1950's, when the church building itself was constructed.

[a pic or two of how it looks now are here: ]

Anyways. As part of that re-construction of the existing fancy woodwork, this pair of carved grille panels got (literally!) "cut out". They then bounced around the shop for a few years (under my watchful eye) until somebody else decided they were in his way one day and they got headed towards the dreaded dumpster -- I interrupted that trip forthwith and they then spent a few more years sitting in my storage closet. FFWD to recently when I tripped over 'em again (while looking for something else) and it occurred to me that they might look kinda fun hanging on the wall over the pair of windows in my office, thus here they both are as of this afternoon...? ;-) :-)

They measure roughly 10" x 28" ea., and are made of dark stained (probably white) oak wood, still unfinished on the backside (as original) and sides where they got cut from the old work.

Looking at 'em again now, I think the one over the lamp is still a little crooked...if that takes to annoying me I'll fix it. Otherwise I think I'm kinda happy with the results amongst the other Junque on my walls....???
