Here is a little light blue/lavender Kurata Craft Glass sake set. The flask (tokkuri) is 5" high x 3" wide, the cups (ochoko) are 2" high x 2" wide. I lived in Japan for 18 months and acquired a taste for sake, so have always had at least one or two ceramic sake sets in my house. I think I have at least two, right now.. This is my first set made of glass. I will surely use this set a few times before putting it away. I think these may have mica or some other material in the glass. As part of my crash course in learning something about Japanese art glass I have looked at a lot of material, but had not seen another sake set by Kurata. There are a couple of Japanese auction sites that are a great resource for images of Japanese art glass. It was kind of funny to see some Fenton hobnail there, too. I actually found this set on Etsy for $12, $20 shipped, so couldn't resist it. I decided to spend $100 on five examples of labeled Japanese art glass by various makers so that I can start getting a feel for it. This is the first of the five. The goal is to be able to start recognizing unlabeled glass in thrift shops...

Update: I did eventually find two modern glass sets,, still in production, labeled Joetsu Crystal. They were each different, but both crystal, one clear, one frosted and more industrial looking. They were very pricey, with one flask and only two cups. Glass sets are used for un-warmed sake. Not really certain my set is meant to be used or just looked at, but that is moot since the flask was destroyed during shipping due to careless packing by the seller. Sigh.

Thanks, Karen. Unfortunately, the flask was broken due to poor packing by the seller. The cups survived, but the seller is going to refund my full cost and let me keep them. Now I just need to find another blue flask...
