After some searching I've found this is variously known as mica, Aventurine and spangle glass. It seems to have been produced by adding silver mica chips or other chemicals to the glass. Dating it is difficult as I've seen pieces attributed as Victorian right up to 1960's. It's an impressive 10" tall and 8" diameter at the top, hand-blown with a ground pontil and it rings beautifully. I don't yet know the maker.
