Did you know Cheryl Ladd was the singing voice of Melodie on The Josie and the Pussycats cartoon?
This was a group formed by Hanna Barbera in 1970 to promote their upcoming Josie and the Pussycats cartoon. They made this album, 6 singles and provided the singing voices for the cartoon. The members were Cathy Douglas/Josie, Patrice Holloway(sister of Motown legend Brenda Holloway)/Valerie and Cherie Moor(later better known as Cheryl Ladd)/Melodie
Among the song writers were Danny Janssen(who wrote songs for for Bobby Sherman and The Partridge Family) and Bobby Hart(who wrote songs for the Monkees). Hanna-Barbera wanted an all white band, but Janssen wanted Holloway's soulful voice for the bubble gum/pop songs he had written. She was the best and most accomplished singer of the group. He stood his ground and after three weeks Hanna-Barbera gave in. Word got around about the stand Janssen had taken. To show their gratitude, a number of the most notable soul session players in the city offered their services to La La Productions and the Josie album at a fraction of their regular fees. Among them were Elvis Presley's drummer Ronnie Tutt, Elvis' bassist Jerry Scheff, keyboardist Clarence MacDonald, flutist Wilton Felder and guitarist Mike Stewart.
