Museum quality - in fact this folk art is from the estate of Donna Bear Scott, (1933-2015) daughter of Donald Bear, founder of the Santa Barbara Museum of Art. It is special. It has no bottom but an opening with a "lip" - not sure what the usage was - it has been suggested it is an incense burner. Nice size, it is about 12" tall and about 8-1/2" in diameter at the base.
Being a hippie design, is the “finial” a mushroom?
Probably is an incense holder so smoke would come from the opening.
Would also make a cute bird house!
Watchsearcher the finial I was told is the "tree of life" although personally I think it is a mushroom cloud with skulls along the edge. Funny I thought it may be a bird house too except for no floor.
Ms.CrystalShip - yes, back to a day when peace was something we all wanted.
I thought the things around the base of the “finial” were pigs ....since “pig” was the derogatory word for police back then....so the “pigs” guarding the hallucinagenic mushroom...
