Hello- My first time here -hope someone can identify this handbag maker? I can't find the name anywhere. The purse is black leather with a red leather interior. It has a faux fleur-de-lis pattern horse brass on the front flap. The first pic is the name Bruce Currie in cursive under a shield type emblem (similar to the Evans logo) on the inside of the front flap. The second pic shows the purse itself. The inside has a red leather pouch attached with brass loops on the sides with a YKK zipper. Thanks very much - I appreciate any help!!
I can solve your mystery! Bruce Currie was my grandfather and he owned Sagamore Leather Guild in Sagamore Massachusetts for many years. He began as a shoemaker and then opened his own store where he and talented artisans, created beautiful leather bags, wallets, belts etc, all made by hand in the small factory. Although his bags have no real monetary value, know that you have a wonderful piece of history. I'm thrilled to see one of his purses is still being used!
Hello mbentley!
Thank you so much for taking the time to post this information. I had found his obituary, which mentioned the guild, but no real info beyond that. This is especially exciting to me because I hail from Bourne, MA where Sagamore is located. It makes sense that I found it at a local thrift store!
I've never used the purse, and would be very pleased to gift it to your family if there's an interest. I don't know how to facilitate that, though, so I'll contact someone here & ask if it's possible to share my information with you privately, provided you agree.
