This clock was given to me by sweet elderly lady about 35 years ago. Amazing that it has not sustain any damage throughout our moves. It works! Not sure how old it is. It is stamped "Made in Germany" on the back of the clock mechanism and "MECCEDEI" (or ends in "L") on front clock face below Roman Numeral 12. That are the only markings I see.

    Unsolved Mystery

Maybe the encryption below the 12 is Mercedes?

Well if it has "Made In" on it then it was made after the tariff act of 1931 when they started the country of origin mark to be written that way. From 1951 to 1955 it would have been marked "Made In West Germany". The west mark was implemented a bit after the end of WWII. I would think this is probably after 1955 because during the years between 31 and the end of the war the embargo act stopped imports from Germany. I have one very similar made in the USA in 71. The mark on the works simply means the works were made in Germany. Folks in the USA and other countries bought German works to put in their clocks. There is my two cents.

Interesting. I did find "West Germany" on the face of the clock to by Roman Numeral 5. Boy they can sure hide the printing. Thanks.

Well that is good. It gives you a time span for the works.
