"Swirly vase" is a technical term. :P This vase is 10.5" high x 6" wide. It is a large heavy vase. There are gold flecks in the rim of the opening. The colors are shades of purple. The bottom is flat ground and polished, but shows wear, so I think it has some age.

I first thought it might be Murano due to the gold fleckage (another technical term), but another collector suggested it might be Canadian Murano AKA Chalet Glass. I did find one other example of this vase on ebay, including the gold fleckage, but it was shorter and slimmer, 8" x 5". This leads me to believe that it is a design that was reproduced to some extent by a glass maker, not a one off. I like that it has a sense of motion to it and the gold flecks seem to accentuate that motion. Research opportunity. Any comments on who the maker may be, age, etc., are most welcome!

Here is the other example of this vase that I found:

Now thinking it is probably Japanese after looking at a lot of glass. Maybe Sanyu... Not confident enough to put it in the Japanese Art Glass category, but enough to put it in my personal Japanese Art Glass collection...

      It is so gorgeous Kevin.
The shape is a bit Iwatsu but the colour is Sanyu.
I don’t know who or when, I just know it’s wonderful.

So, if Sanyu and Iwatsu had a baby.... Thanks Karen!

Here is the other example that I found of his vase, smaller, slimmer, worse bottom, but definitely same maker. This one has more wear, too..

While doing some research on Sanyu/Narumi, I found this vase with wings. Same concept, different execution....
