I came across these in some brass scrap, there are two. I’m trying to figure out of they’re actually old or just old looking good for scrap. Is the patent number a date? You turn the knob on and off

It looks like someone restored and rewired it. The patent date is not the date this was made it is the date the patent was registered. Leviton has online databases you can research to get more exact information. The logo on this item was used up until 1968.

However, being restored brings up the question of whether or not this was actually one of their original lamps. You see the original lamps were made to use natural gas rather than electricity. If it were mine I would be getting pictures and going to their site and requesting help identifying these. Just my 2 cents

fhrjr2 Thanks for the info, since your comment I have been trying to find this database for Leviton you talked about and I am unable to. I have found many slightly similar to mine but nothing close enough to put a date on or verify originality on them. Do you know of which site I can get more info on?

I didn't bookmark the site or remember the exact syntax I used for the search but I was simply researching antique leviton lighting fixtures. If you go to http://www.leviton.com at the top right of their site there is a link to contact them. Most companies are glad to assist if you send them a few photos to view. Doing my own research I have found that when I encounter problems it is often quicker to go to the manufacturer directly if they are still in business. Also the historical societies in their home city are often a wealth of information and willing to assist. That even applies to small towns with a historical society.
