Does anyone recognize this piece or know who the artist that carved it may be? I've searched all over it for a signature and found a few potential areas that sort of look like letters if you squint hard enough, but they could also be just be cracks in the wooden surface. The tag on the bottom says who it belonged to and I found some interesting stuff out about him during my research.
Leon S Mcgoogan MD
•Born: August 13, 1900
•1925: M.D. University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine
•1930: Private Practice in obstetrics and gynecology at Immanuel Hospital
•1950-1955, 1961-1962: Chairman of the department of obstetrics and gynecology
•60 years as instructor and later senior consultant in the department of obstetrics and gynecology
•Raised $385,000 to build and endow the new medical library building at the University of Nebraska Medical Center
•1978: The medical library is renamed the McGoogan Library of Medicine in his honor
•Died: 1993
So after finding all that out I wondered if this could be an item he collected or commissioned or maybe it was just a gift from a talented patient. I've reached a dead end. I'm hoping one of you maybe can tell me more about it. Thanks for looking!
