This is a H. Northwood & Co. (Wheeling, PA) 816 /989 swung vase with gold trim in the somewhat hard to find color of Chinese Coral. This color was introduced in early 1924 and was issued along with the other 3 jade colors Northwood produced...Green, Blue and Russet. Like some red-orange glass, this would sometimes go a little brown, this color to the point that some collectors are known to call it tan-coral. Fenton's Venetian Red showed the same qualities. This color and the other Northwood jades were short lived as the plant closed in late 1925.
This vase was bought by the Fenton museum, likely by Frank M. Fenton, and for a time there was discussion as to whether this was a Venetian Red Fenton production or the Chinese Coral by Northwood. After some time and research it was determined that this was a Northwood production. The form was shown on a catalog page as an "816 or 989 11" Swung Vase" with no differentiation made for the two numbers. I guess you can take your pick. Maybe one had the gold trim and the other didn't. It is marked on the base with the Fenton Museum acquisition number.
