i have so many memories of this window! i would sit in front of it when i had to stay home sick as a little kid - and wonder about it. it's a really beautiful one with those little round ones [forgot the name - bullet something?]. anyways, when we built our house in the woods, we took this window with us from the huge old victorian telescope house we lived in when i was little. has anyone seen a window like this before? it's about 5.5 ft tall.
Solar System is what comes to my mind. Beautiful work!
Thanks TreasureTex! that's such a good association!
I see that it did come from the "Telescope House" but I just now put those two together. It had to be made with the solar system in mind. I have been trying to find something like it but they are all newer styles. This must have been made special for the telescope house.
the telescope house was what we called that kind of house which started with a simple colonial style in the early 1800s and had larger and larger additions to it and a big barn and carriage house too. it looked kind of like a telescope with each addition.
This is very cool- I imagine it in a hall positioned so that the early dawn sun would catch it when rising, it looks definitely astronomical!
very very beautiful!!!!
It *IS* indeed a spectacular window -- esp. if over 5' tall?!!! Any chance we could get another closer pic of its center feature?? Agreeing totally with LaurenRedmond (and all) that it must be simply incredible to see with the morning sun behind it!!!
:-) :-) :-) :-) :-)
i'll try to remember to get another shot of it close up on my next trip. i really love this window and have lots of early memories staring out it. all the little round ones and the big one are called 'bullseyes'. the center one is a very large bullseye.
I like the earth and moon against the sun in the center. These rest of the jewels look like stars... Love stained glass. I have it all over my house. It was all stripped from my 1883 house before I bought it....
Just occurred to me that the stones outside the sun may represent constellations. Any astronomers here?
could be. i forgot that some of the smaller rounds are actually cut like jewels. you brought that back in your description.
