I got this at an auction. I was told it came from the home of a professor of arts at Rice University. I will not use since I got nasty little pups, and It'd be a shame if they abused it like the huge rug underneath this one! Can anyone tell me about the design? Is it Native American or Turkish? It's definitely hand knotted, and it's got critter places on it. I have kept it in moth balls and trash bags for a few years now, so it should be free of anything more.
Looks like a Kazak. Caucasus area.
Thank you. We hadn't a clue! I have looked everywhere for a similar pattern. Couldn't find anything like it. I'll look it up now and see what I can find out. Sister-in-law's are fighting for it.

I bought a sample piece similar to this one at the Georgetown flea market and the man selling was from Afghanistan he said it was made there--they call it Kilim Tapestry,
