Around '63 Dixie Rexall Drugs had a contest to sell the most Life Savers Gift packs. The third prize was an Eldon Slot Car set. Slot cars were the rage so I figured I could feasibly win the third prize. My mother sold most of the Lifesavers at work, I probably sold two maybe. I didn't win the slotcar set, I won the 1st prize! The 1st prize was a full size bike, I'm short and the top of my head barely cleared the wheels. My mother and I took the bike to Toytown in Eastbrook(my mother knew the owner) to try to trade for a slotcar set. The guy was a real whiner about trading the bike for the slotcars. I wound up with a SMALL Aurora Model Motoring Slotcar set, probably about $20.00 at the most. It wasn't the one in the picture, but similar. The bike was nice(can't remember the brand), it had a built in head light etc., I'm sure it was worth a lot more than $20.00! When we left Scrooge the owner was still moaning as he polished up the bike and put it in the front show window! Well it may not be a Red Ryder classic story, but it's different.
A very Merry Christmas to my CW family,
Bill
Good story Mr. bill
Thank you kindly, Vynil.
Thanks Keramikos, looking back it was amusing but it just seemed frustrating at the time.
Thanks Bama Buddy Thomas. I had some relatives that gave me similar. Chocolate covered cherries were and still are one of my favorite treats, I usually finish off the box very quickly. I think I'll go pick up a box!
Merry Christmas
