Once upon a time, tableware forbig dinners had all kinds of extra utilitarian articles, celery jars, toothpick holders, spooners for tea, spooners for serving, knife rests, salt bowls, mayonnaise bowls, iced butter bowls, bread baskets, gravy boats, and more.

Today at the resale estate auctions, and the odd Flea Market, you can find these nice pieces in decorated porcelain or glass.

Here a Noritake Morimura Brothers porcelain spooner, with mark post 1920 in red, and a floral ornate luster decor. It is not very wide, but does acomodate a pair of glasses.

My story includes a small Canadian pottery face pitcher, with a skeptical expression, marked on base for McMaster Pottery, mid to late 20th century. Producers of a lot of whimsies and souvenir wares.

Your glasses look perfect in the “spooner” since the design look kind of like eyebrows & eyes and the handles look like ears, and there’s even a bit of a nose at the base! A perfect eyeglass holder!

Thank you Leah, I love it when we can find something old and pretty like this and use it for another purpose, spelling is not my strong point, need to reread and edit several times....LOL

Thank you watchsearcher, I was thinking the same thing, as I looked at it from a distance, space for eyes, ears and nose. The previous story was with another member's post that I keep sitting on my glasses and breaking them.... so a spooner seemed like a good 'set aside' idea, to avoid mishaps. :-)
