FTG, who later became Multi Glass, produced glass in Fukuoka Japan from early in the 20th century.
Like most Japanese glass houses, post war they started looking to the world market, and produced a very small range of these large cameo glass platters to show off their craft. In the early 1950s they provided a number of samples to be showcased at various worldwide trade fairs, in Europe particularly, and this is one of them.
This platter is made from 4 layers of glass. The base is white glass, with a thin layer of crimson, then green, and then a dark brownish- black. The glass has been masked and sand blasted in what looks like 2-3 steps.
The result is a lily outlined in black, with crimson to white petals., and a background of pink to green.
It is a cool piece of glass art, hand made, and displaying beautiful design and skill.
    Diameter 35cm

The last photo shows a later (60s) bowl from FTG, and a handpainted vase from Amemiya Hee Noto. It was supposed to be my Christmas post, but sorry friends, I didn't post in time. My very best wishes to all of you for 2020!!

I have another Platter from FTG from this series posted here:
      https://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/192728-fukuoka-glass-owl-plate

The embarrassing, or possibly good, thing about CW is this: old posts show how much I didn't know!!

Once again, Japanese glass shows a totally different spin on an old technique (cameo glass goes back to ancient Rome). So unlike European cameo, this piece is exotic & vibrant - perfect colours for the festive season!

Happy holidays Karen! That lily design is totally gorgeous and it looks wonderful & color compatible with the bowl and vase

Thank you Eileen, and best wishes to you!
This certainly was made by an accomplished group of people, and I'm so glad you like it!

Thanks IL, I though it suitable for the season of food, wine, and friends.
I guess like most artisans, Japanese glass artists tried their hand at every method, and cameo is just one. As you say, a different take to Italian, or French, or Czech cameo glass!
Best wishes for a great 2020 IL!

I'm ok here Sue. Thanks. The fires threatening Sydney have been basically controlled for now although huge parts of Australia still burn and will for a very long time. This won't be over until winter.
We have experienced severe heat (48C, 118F) and more coming, terrible smoke. The worst things I am dealing with are anger, frustration and sadness.
Or beautiful bush, plants and animals, decimated. People dead. Homes and businesses destroyed. Politicians bullshitting. Mineral lords still trying to open new mines. Murdoch controlled media still gaslighting.
I have become a keyboard warrior and am currently wearing a tshirt with the Aust shield changed and titled "Department of Sh1tfvckery", but correctly spelled. I am ready to join multiple protests. I feel helpless.
It's heartwarming however that you, and so many overseas, care, and we all appreciate it. The world needs to know what is happening here. We are the canary in the coal mine for climate change and this will happen elsewhere if nothing changes. Our government is complicit and so many Australians still don't want to change their ways. Frustrating, and dangerous.

Sorry, just needed to offload there.

We keep going, and hopefully will see change but Australia will never be the same again.

Thanks for your care and love. Back at ya.

I am sooo relieved to know you are physically ok! I can't believe I have been so busy with mom and my kids, we are all okay just things changing here so fast for me that I haven't noticed anything in the news lately. I too am deeply saddened by what is going on there, I would even say shocked and feeling down as a very good friend of mine that basically is afraid to be around other people and lives in Victoria. I can't imagine he would ever evacuate, so how could he survive? Today I heard on the "news" that "if you haven't evacuated, we will not be able to help you" I'm just sick over this and so very worried. Then I realized you are over there too but was unsure where exactly you were and by the sound of things, it's almost like it doesn't matter, that everyone there is being affected. You have every right to vent, and vent as loud and long as you can! Where ever you can too! Thank you so much for taking the time to answer me here. It gives me a glimmer of hope. From what I understand, firefighters from here in the U.S. are going over there to help. I hope that is true. I hope there is help and some relief for you. This is beyond horrendous and everyone needs to open their eyes take a stand. Sending you much love my friend! Please keep us updated as you see it so we have a real prospective of what's truly going on, not what the news is only allowed to tell us. My heart is with you!!! xoxo

Hi again! I am sooo relieved! My friend wrote me today and he's is okay telling me about the same as you did about the media and government. None of that is "okay", right & morally wrong!!! All and all, I'm not at as worried about him now or on the edge of depression. I am however about all the long-term devastation it may have on everyone's physical health, breathing all those poisons.

And as Mary has stated here too, about the wildlife, plants loss of homes and lives. I've always told you I wish you lived close to us here! We love you Karen!

Thanks so much my dear friends. I am really touched by your love and support.

I am very fortunate to not be in any bushfire area, so of course I am safe and well.
My malaise relates to frustration, sadness and anger related to action that should have been taken, and climate policy we steered away from a decade ago.

Please ignore any press relating to arson or lack of hazard reduction. Social media has been flooded with trolls and bots and media have followed. There is no one very simple answer to the fire crisis, but climate change is a huge factor.
