This table was giving to me by mom. She kept it in storage for many years. I love the look of it. Of the few minutes of online research I have attempted, I think it’s a French library writing table. Remember I have no past experience with furniture. But I would sure love to work and repair furniture.
Very similar quality to the Horner Brothers monumental furniture, I have enough spectacular furniture but I would love this piece, lucky you !~
Maybe some walnut stain like Howard Restore-A-Finish, and then the excellent Howard Feed-N-Wax would give this the oomph it needs to particularly be the spectacular desk that it already is. I do think its a rare Horner Brothers desk, I am so envious of this monumental piece !!~
I believe in some of my books I have better pictures of the work of the Horner Bros. as the internet is usually lacking in the best information and photo examples of furniture.
The stain for the top would just need a quick rub, less than a few minues to do. The polish they make is rubbed carefully on, but so simple to do, and gives a professional sheen to it like French polishing. One of the best quality polishes I have used and I have tried a lot of them.
you're info and insight is so much appreciated philDMorris
Fully agreeing w/ Phil and all his advice -- also his envy of this *absolutely fabulous* library table!!! <applause> Welcome to CW Bay3bear, and all my best wishes towards your efforts to clean it up (just a little bit...it don't need much?!) and find it a place of prominence to display and enjoy in your own home instead of the garage! ;-) :-) :-)
Impressive!
The dovetails in the drawer really show quality and workmanship. Looks like a chore to cut them at that angle.
