This is a real photo of a happy looking young lady, sitting on the back of possibly a Model T in 1927. Little did she know that the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl Storms were soon coming. I wish that didn't have to happen to them. I guess that many of us, including myself have heard terrible stories from our elders about life in those days.

My parents were married in 1933. They lived in a one room tar paper shack that my Dad built and heated during the Missouri winters using buckets of hot coals placed in the corners. I didn't understand until later why, when helping him in the garage he ran as a hobby, Dad made me use a sheet of sand paper until it looked like satin before letting me switch to a fresh piece. I also straightened my share of bent nails. My parents were frugal in so many ways. Going to the grocery store was like going to Disneyland for them all their lives. They always put on their Sunday clothes to go. They spent hours there, much to my frustration.
