    1-2. Puvis de Chavannes L’Esperance, V.12, 3rd. original plate, 1898
    Puvis de Chavannes, Pierre-Cècile, (born December 14, 1824, Lyon, France—died October 24, 1898, Paris), the leading French mural painter of the later 19th century. He was largely independent of the major artistic currents of his time and was much admired by a diverse group of artists and critics, including Georges Seurat, Paul Gauguin, Charles Baudelaire, and Théophile Gautier.
    This is an original plate, expressly created for the series. Pic. 2 shows the explanatory page that came with every print but which most have lost. Chavannes was the founder of the Rose+Croix movement

Marcel-Lenoir, pseudonym of Jules Oury, born on May 11, 1872 in Montauban and died on September 6, 1931 in Montricoux,isa painter, fresquist, jeweler, illuminator, engraver and French draughtsman. Born into a goldsmith's family, Marcel-Lenoir went to Paris in 1889. There he attended the School of Decorative Arts,and the courses of the Fresquist Paul Baudoin at theNational Higher School ofFine Arts,then discovered the artists of the French and Italian Middle Ages at the Cluny Museum and then at the Louvre Museum. Passionate about symbolism,he frequented the poet Paul Fort and the Rose-Croix circles, he discovered at the same time the works of the Swiss Arnold Bocklin, the Englishman Edward Burne-Jones and Pierre Puvis de Chavannes.
    4. Gaston Bussière, Brunnhild vol. 2, no. 13, 1, May 1898;
    Gaston Bussière (April 24, 1862 in Cuisery – October 29, 1928 or 1929[1] in Saulieu) was a French Symbolist painter and illustrator. Bussière studied at l'Académie des Beaux-Arts in Lyon before entering the école des beaux-arts de Paris where he studied under Alexandre Cabanel and Pierre Puvis de Chavannes. In 1884, he won the Marie Bashkirtseff prize.
