I believe this is an ornamental attachment for hanging on a ladies chatelaine that was worn on the belt. It was recently found in my grandmother’s old jewelry kept by my aunt. There is no pin or hook on the back so that is why I think it is just something ornamental to hang on the chatelaine. My grandmother was from a long line of Farm wives. There was probably no money for the actual chatelaine or fancy watches and scissors. It is silver toned with abalone inlay. Strange for a Nebraska farmer. Possibly a gift from a traveling friend or family member? I know some of the family moved out to California close to the turn of the century. That would make sense for abalone. I love it! I will be searching old photos to see if anyone wore it.

I doubt it was part of a chantelain because the items making up a chantelain all had some useful purpose and needed to be kept close at hand.

I cannot see anything about your item that would make it serve a purpose. It wouldn’t be practical for a lady to wear this hanging from her waist just as a decoration.

Shriners used the crescent & star, but inverted. Don't know if there is a connection.
