      Your cartridge appears to be a Eley Brothers, London England 12mm cartridge.
      In the British Pinfire Cartridge Patents it list:
      W.T. Eley - Patent Number 916 of April 13, 1861: A means to prevent the pin being blown out when cartridge is fired.
      Two out of print books have about all the information needed on Pinfire firearms:
      The Pinfire System by Gene P. Smith & Chris C. Curtis
      System Lefaucheux by Chris Curtis

      Pinfires were around about 1850's - 1860's. Popular more in Europe, but some private purchase weapons in the Americas.
