This is a DDR panel bracelet from the seasidetown Kühlungsborn. A souvenire piece is serious need of restringing. I believe it is bakelite. I bought it because of the cool colors and I plan to use it with my yellow or cherry amber bakelite necklaces. I am planing to remove the photo panel. The person I bought it from thought it to be from the 60's.
I have tried to find out more but haven't been succesfull. I have seen other bakelite souvenirs from the same town all after WWII ofcourse. I don't know when the tourism hit its peak there back in the days but I guess the 60's could be right?

I love bakelite but had so little experience with it that I could not collect it. I love that parts of the bracelet looks like a collection and row of bakelite bracelets which gives this post the wow factor !~

Beautiful bracelet with lovely striations, this will look great with your yellow & cherry amber necklaces. Nice find!

Thank you Mrstyndall, PhilDMorris and Newfld for your nice coments :)
PhilDMorris I had not thought about that but you are right! Newfld, the red and yellow is not a colorcombination that first comes to mind in my head but I think they look delightful together like some tasty fruit - oranges and cherries :)

Freihet that is great information. Did you see them in a store or people wearing them? Could 60's be right?

Thanks Valentino! Yes I could try to contact them. I feel the bracelet could be older. I have tryed to read up on the town and it seems it really hit as a seaside tourist place after WWII. I have seen similar bracelets that are said to be older than the 60's. A bit confusing. I think you are right it is imitating baltic amber. My plan is to restring it like you advice but leave out the panel with the photo and keep it incase I change my mind. It will still be wide enough for me.

I saw them mostly on people but also in stores (although I have no idea if they were Bakelite or some other plastic). To me, at the time, they were just plastic. I didn't know much about Bakelite then, other than my grandmother calling any plastic item "just cheap Bakelite". Little did she know that years later, collecting "cheap Bakelite" has become a pricey past time.
BTW, I think I would like the bracelet without the photo better, too. I would take the piece out and save it - just in case of some change of mind in the future :)

Thank you Freiheit. Yes that is how it often was. Things didn't seem interesting when there were plenty around. I have seen older ones on auctions. Maybe all of them arent bakelite. This one ticks all the boxes that I can check but I never feel 110 % sure :)
