This was an exciting find at an attic mall out in the high desert. The Pancho Pony is fairly common but this box is not. It was only sold in this box in 1974. Otherwise it was sold from 1967-1977. The horse was made for the Johnny West kids who are referred to as 9" Figures on the box. At this time there were some other figures who were 10" like Big Jim and the Gabriel Lone Ranger series so I guess they could ride them too.
A feature of the Marx Horse boxes was that the back of the box had the instructions to put on the horse tack. The horse came in 2 colors, palomino like this example and sorrel (red). Each color had a different box.
Wrapping it up is Jay West trying to get this horse to ride off into the sunset.
box and all nice find ..
Thank you very much findings. The box makes this piece.
