This piece is about 10.5" in diameter. The seller called it a plate, but I don't think it have been used as a plate as it has a very polished surface. Mikasa had a series of ceramic shell plates, but they did not closely resemble this piece, except in form. I think this was meant to be an art piece and displayed as a charger. It bears the Kurata for Mikasa label, while the ceramic plates were marked "Laslo" and had a cupped top and protruding base so they sat flat. The plates may have been inspired by pieces like this, or vice versa, but the item shown was not a plate for dining from, IMHO.
Fabulous shell design, this is a really gorgeous Mikasa piece & I love the wave lines in it
