The front (obverse) of the medal shows the vision of the Virgin Mary that St. Bernadette Soubirous had at a grotto near Lourdes. This is "the" standard depiction of the Marian apparition at Lourdes, with Bernadette kneeling on the left and Mary at right, somewhat raised. You can see the cathedral of Lourdes in the background at left.

The rear (reverse) of the medal, although even harder to make out, appears to show St. Christopher with the boy Jesus on his shoulder.

Both subjects commonly appear on Catholic religious medals. If you Google "Lourdes medal" and "St. Christopher medal" respectively, you'll see clearer examples. Although your medal is well rubbed on both sides, the outlines of the figures are consistent with the standard iconography.

P.S. I haven't seen St. Christopher as an inset on the reverse before; that makes it a little unusual. It's a sweet medal - looks like it was well loved by its previous owner :)
