I often go back to the Butler Brothers Monograph published by Tom Felt at the West Virginia American Glass Museum. It contains many imported Czech and Bohemian glass ads between 1905 and 1932.

It also has Japanese glass exports, and a mix of American glass, mostly pressed products. There is a question here as it is combined with a Czech confirmed Tango spatter type of coiled pair of vases, yet neither are described as imports. Could it be a pressed Czech glass vase by Stolzle. Ad page for the Minneapolis July 1929 warehouse contents.

It happens often that the advertised glass items are never found on the resale market. But this time I recognized it right away on Etsy. No category for pressed glass here, so used what there was.

Nice color and interesting shape. It has a very Art Deco shape that would have been very popular back then. Thanks for sharing!!

Thank you Time Traveler and Ms. Crystalship for your great comments.

I have been looking for another color in the same shape, got a light green one today, and also have a few American contenders as producer.

Consensus is American glass company in Ohio valley, Imperial Glass, who made pressed glass in several attractive deco patterns, see Replacements site for more. This one is called Swing Optic, which was produced for many years.

The Ohio glass company did go bankrupt with the rest after October 1929, but reorganized by acquiring many of the other glass companies resources, and continued into the Depression years, well known as one of the fine makers of that period.

It seems that the cheap American pressed glass was a good alternative to ceramic utilitarian dinnerware items in the 1930s, today they are very collectable.

agree this does seem to match Imperial Glass #744 Twisted Optic; which is considered Elegant Glass (from before, during and after the depression era), which is hand finished; not to be confused with machine made depression glass. It is a bit odd that the direction of the optics in the Butler ad is opposite the posted item and this example:

I agree too TallCakes, that the BB ad seems to have a flaw in the direction of the curves, I found a site that explain which way this should be for a legit Imperial pattern of twisted optic. I also added my new green vase, in the sane shape.

Always the prices then seem to be so strange. $3.50 for a dozen! I really like this pattern.

      Love the green vase, too.
