MrsTyndall's recent post inspired me to post this brooch I found years ago at a thrift. Amazingly, it never lost it's little (perfume?) vial on the back. I saw this in a book, just don't remember which one.
The brooch is 3 and 1/8 inches tall by 2 inches wide.
Very interesting brooch. I have never seen one with perfume vail.
Gorgeous vintage bouquet, the enamel flowers are still vibrant and are such a lovely trio
What an awesome piece! Never seen one before this one with the vial on back, ver6 unusual. Glad I inspired you, Haha! Thanks for posting
Eileen, I think you're absolutely right on the purpose and history. I thought it might also be used for smelling salts. The thing that amazed me about this piece is that the vial just sits between those metal straps. There is no latch or catch. Somehow it doesn't fall out. Amazing precision!
Thanks Jenni and Mrstyndall for your comments and loves.
Also thanks to Ben, Eileen, Aura, Elizabethan, Findings, and AdeleC for the loves.
Pretty brooch - very bright and vibrant for its' age. (same couldn't be said for me) I was thinking the perfume could have been the scent of the flowers.
Thanks Ken and Gillian for the comments. Yes it is surprisingly in good condition. And thanks to Brunswick and Ken for the loves, too.
It's so beautiful- the colours are so deep and vibrant!
