It's market day today, so I visited my favourite China and Glass Stall, who luckily is in our indoor market, as our outdoor market ( still undercover but with open sides) burnt down the other day, and all the stall holders lost everything. He had some nice antique cups and saucers last week, so I asked him if any were left, so I picked out a couple. This one has a puce mark of a Griffon, on the saucer, and pattern number 1212 on the cup. I've looked up the mark and it says Rockingham Works, Brameld, Manufacturer to the King. The Rockingham Pottery is a Yorkshire Pottery, and closed in 1842, so I think this cup and saucer dates between 1830-42. Some of the gilding is worn, and there is a hairline crack near the handle, also there's a few nibbles round the saucer, but I'm delighted to find a marked piece of Rockingham.
