I took a chance on this vase, uncertain of its origins. The seller didn't provide any useful information about it (not even the size!) but it was cheap, & looked kind of interesting. I like square vases & this one also has a striking twist to it.
It is made from a single layer of amethyst glass (looks a bit more purple in person, & was difficult to photograph). Measuring 20.2 cm tall, 6.5 cm across the top rim, & 9.9 cm across the base, it is quite heavy for its size. There is a satiny, iridescent finish with a subtle crackle effect all over the vase, though it is glossy inside. It is substantial & well - finished. No markings or signature.
It would have originally had a sticker underneath - Silvestri Mouth Blown Glass...made in Taiwan.

Interesting vase. Some time ago I bought a similar vase in Australia. Unfortunately, I also know nothing about it. I think it's the same manufacturer.

I am curious about this piece. What color is the ground?

I have seen one other vase this shape in the crackle finish, and own another one in what looks like a dark red enamel, perhaps reduced, finish. I’ll post a link to pictures soon. I personally thought mine was from the 50’s onward? I’d love to know their origin!

I hope this is helpful! :)

I think this could possibly be contemporary production by Silvestri.

Hmmmm....maybe, Craig! A good direction to look.

Many thanks for the link, larksel, & it definitely does look quite similar to this vase.

welzebub, the ground is a light amethyst. It does look rather greyish here but in person it is more mauve/purple. The dull iridescent surface decor makes it difficult to capture in a photo.

Michelle, many thanks for the links, & it looks like you've got the same vase in a different colour!

I've had a look at Silvestri, & it's certainly a possibility, I see that they've done some iridescent pieces in various styles.
For years, I've tried to be up to date & aware of modern glass & giftware that may be mistaken for earlier pieces. I had not seen any pieces like this around for sale new in the last 20 years or so that I can recall, so perhaps it is from the 1980s? It could certainly fit in with that era's revivals of Art Deco & Art Nouveau styles in decorative objects.
What I like about it is its rather restrained glamour. The square shape & twisted form have an early 20th century vibe mixed with a vaguely space age look.

Somehow I can't get any information about "Silvestri". Is it a manufacturer or trader? I found only the designation .. Silvestri Made in Taiwan, and also Silvestri Murano ???

larksel, from what I've seen in my searches for this, it seems to be an importer, & that this particular item was probably made in Taiwan. It would have had a sticker underneath originally. There seems to be a quite a variety of this glass on the secondary market.
