Did you know that Mike Collins, Apollo 11 astronaut to the moon PAINTS WATERCOLOR PAINTINGS? Yes! Here's the one I acquired, an original. It is entitled "Hi from Mike". The subject matter is a baobab tree in Africa ... Mike took a trip to Africa (Kenya, I think) several years ago and painted a series of Africa inspired paintings. Mike is pictured standing in the "poacher's hollow" of this tree. NOTE: The moon can be seen upper left through the tree branches. I'm also posting a photo of a page showing an illustration drawn by Mike from his 1974 book CARRYING THE FIRE. You'll observe that he depicts Earth showing Africa ... NOT North/South America. I am also posting a photo of an actual baobab tree with a poacher's hollow (poachers carved out the trees to hide in). ANY OBSERVATIONS comparing the photo of the real tree to Mike's depiction of the tree??? And finally, the last photo shows the painting WITH the Apollo 11 Command Module at the Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh (Fall 2019). I look forward to reading your comments, friends.
