This is a vintage Lucite (not Bakelite) necklace found at my local thrift. The colors are very Art Deco and the clasp is older style, too, but the condition is so new looking I'm thinking this is a reproduction. I know there are plastic aficionados here, so please chime in. Your thoughts?

Mary I added another picture. It is a close-up of the green thread/cord it is strung with. I can't tell what it is, silk or cotton as the beads are tight. Hope the picture helps. Thanks for the love and appreciative comment.

Ken, Jenni and Eileen, thanks for the comments and loves.
And to Hel1,Ben, fortapache, and vynil33rpm thanks for love!

Really? It didn't test as Bakelite with metal polish. Thanks for the heads up. I'll go look for it. I'm not an expert on Bakelite.

Hi Valentino97, Yes I saw there were 3 on eBay. That's why I think this is a reproduction. There are too many. Also, I think it is Lucite and I'm sticking with it. Lucite was created by DuPont in 1937 so it is an old material but I get suspicious when I see a bunch on eBay. I immediately think modern reproduction.

I know I'm like two years late to this party, but I just bought this necklace on ebay. Seller was super upfront about wear and tear(light and age appropriate, but it looks like someone tested "something" on one of the beads)-it has buffed out using appropriate gentle compounds. Mine definitely seems old-hidden clasp has patinaing etc. It just has that "old" feeling-can't exactly describe it. No idea what it's made of, but I love it. I am not a collector, and I'm sure by now everyone has moved on from this discussion, but I'd like to learn more if anyone is still lurking... yours, Laura

Hi HadesHnds, What type of plastic did the seller say your necklace is? Please post it with your questions and someone will probably answer.

Hey! I can't speak to the specific kind of plastic, but as for why you may see a few of them floating around, it's from an Avon jewelry set from 1987 called Color Waves. There is an ivory colored version as well and matching earrings for each. Lovely piece!

Sanguineandsage, Thank you for identifying the probable maker! Avon, a company I know next to nothing about. It is a smart looking necklace. Something to research. I'd like to know the designer behind the line.
