This Fukuoka handkerchief style vase is about 7.5" long x 11" high x 5" wide. It is in mint, or near mint, condition and retains its original foil label. My first piece of Fukuoka glass.
It was an ebay find which was listed for several weeks with no bids and finally went on sale and got only one bid, mine. Apparently the style and colors are not to the taste of American ebayers, but still a nice example of Fukuoka glass. I am starting to realize that Japanese glass is not of much interest to most American collectors. Highly priced Japanese art glass does not seem to sell well at all and some pieces linger for months on auction sites before being discounted.
This vase was listed for $60 plus shipping for a couple of months with a "Make Offer" option. I made two much lower offers which were automatically turned down. The seller finally re-listed it with a starting bid of $5 and that is what I paid for it! I think the total was something like $18 with shipping and insurance. I may start asking ebay sellers to give me money to take their Japanese art glass!
Thank you aura!
Outstanding beauty here, this vase is really stunning, from the handkerchief shape to the gorgeous color blends, congrats on your first Fukuoka Kevin!
Fukuoka excelled at these stripy pieces of glass, and I think this is a fantastic piece.
Japanese glass is possibly better known here in Aus maybe because we imported a lot more of it than Italian or Czech glass so prices here are often higher. You are finding some absolute wonders Kevin!
@Newfld - Thanks Jenni! I like it a lot. Kind of large, though, so I'll probably just store it until I can start rearranging my collection to reflect my new interest in Japanese and Bohemian glass.
@racer4four - Thanks Karen! Yeah, a double edged sword, since there is probably a lot less Japanese art glass in the U.S. as a result. Czech glass is also in shorter supply. I very seldom see either in the wild. I have to go to auction sites to find it.
@Brunswick - Thanks for your comment, Thomas!

Thank you artfoot and Vintagefran!
Finally got this one cleaned up and re-photographed. Had to use rubbing alcohol to avoid soaking the label off of it. There is still a streak of hard yellow something on the bottom, shown in that last photo. It is slowly giving way to the rubbing alcohol and I have gotten more of it off, since I took these photos. This vase is much more vibrant since cleaning. It was very grungy with a lot of deep build up, probably from the home of a smoker.
