Found this small cedar trinket box at a local charity sale. It measures about 3" x 5" x 2" tall. The craftsmanship is exceptional, incorporqting inlay and marquetry - using what appears to be silver wire, one dot of abalone, burl framing,...the contrasting colors of green and red appear to be paint/dye. The cedar aroma is very strong. Not evident is a very slight bevel of the top. Neither brand new nor particularly old - I suspect it was crafted circa 180-90. No markings that I could find - there is one very faint mark, seemingly pencil, but I believe it is incidental. I am particularly curious regarding the likely ethnic origin of this piece. Welcome any/all comments.

I appear to have answered my own question - not cedar but thuya wood - so interesting. Much more info out there but this little link is a good start! Do take a look.
