I found this vintage light fixture at a nonprofit architectural salvage store today. I have collected gasoliers for years, but rarely see them anymore. This was available today for $30. My best guess is that it was made around 1920. This "best guess" comes from my interest in collecting old light fixtures for many years. Until recently, I didn't buy anything that was made after about 1915. But today, I just couldn't resist picking this up. Maybe it was the lions on the side, maybe it was because of the brass, but, somehow, I just liked it.
It has been painted white. It will need to be rewired. It is primarily made of brass. The fitters are 3 inches.
I can't seem to get these pictures to rotate to be right side up.
Can anyone tell me if I am correct about the date of manufacture of this fixture.
I would think 20's is right. I love all the old ones from the art deco period. I used to go to a lot of auctions in the early 80's and it was not hard to find these at all, but since then they have all but gone from auction. But as you know thesedays you can find anything on the net !~
I am not much for ways to keep pics from going sideways but I never have that problem because I make sure I load all my pics onto a desk computer and not a phone. This may become a real beauty once the paint goes and the brass is shone up.
Thanks, PhilDMorris. I still have the fixture, but haven't done anything with it yet. I am really much more interested in gasoliers.
