I have finally obtained this long sought Viking Glass classic from the 1960s, their famous 11"L alligator ashtray in amber glass.
My fellow animal glass collector Kevin-kwqd, I hope you will be excited to see this popular staple from Viking that has eluded me for years!
I think Egyptian style influenced this design, sensational.
This is cute actually- from the thumbnail I thought it was a little brown conch shell actually and I do agree with PhilDMorris here-I can see the sleek Egyptian design in it.
Lauren, at first I thought it was a shell too :). Cute piece though, could serve as a cute ring holder
If you build it, it will come! Okay, did I say that backwards??? Well, you know what I mean. I promise you, when I think of something that I really want, I kid you not, it comes to me in 3's soon after!!!
Cool gatortray… lol you thought I was gonna say Gatorade, didn't you!!!
Thanks so much for the love

Phil thanks for the super compliment, yes this gator certainly has an Egyptian look, it is like he has been stretched out
Thank you Thomas for the fantastic comment, and seeing the originality here, Viking made some beautiful glass animal ashtrays with "dish" bellies, so that even a non smoker like myself could use it for other things like candies or holding office items
Lauren thank you for the very kind observ on this alligator, it does have a rather shell like appearance as well, because it is almost 1 ft long I had to try to get the entire body in the thumbnail foto so I think it's that curved tail!
MrsT absolutely, this would make a great ring holder too! Notice there are no grooved edges to hold cigarettes so Viking was probably going for a versatility piece. Great comment thanks so much
Thanx share for the fab comment and being happy for me, and I totally understand, when you finally find something you've wanted forever, you tend to see others - there were actually two more of these gators for sale online, when they are usually snapped up in a flash. Gatortray is a cool name for this, lol about the gatorade the two words rhyme!
Yay Jennie!
I'm waiting for my Sasaki one in amber to turn up.
I'll post it when it arrives :))
Thanks Karen for the super comment, I will so love to see your Sasaki alligator I'll bet it is amazing, looking forward to it! I was going to wait a couple wks to post this gator for Brazil's Carnaval holiday time (when I try to feature animals of the Amazon or at least the tropics) but was so excited finding it I had to share lol
Thank you so much Mani and Karen for the love it is always totally appreciated
Many thanks Sean for the love, I am so glad that you liked this 60s gator
Thank you CarLa1966 and Malkey for the love I'm so pleased that you liked this alligator
Thank you very much vcal for loving this Viking glass alligator & other of my glass animals today, it is very gratefully appreciated!
Thank you Giana and Drake for the kind love for this glass alligator, very pleased that you both liked it & appreciate your kindness
They say good things come to those that wait! A kind person like you deserves it. Congratulations :)
Thanks Laurie & DejaVu for the love, and DejaVu for your always thoughtful comment :) Yes it was a long wait to find this, I remember being just about to buy one in cobalt blue then finding it had been sold, so frustrated! When I found this guy I pounced on it, and when I received it I was so happy it was clean & never used, and loved the detail on the face. Gators are always a cool animal both in glass and jewelry, they always remind me of good times on Florida vacations
