      “If you love me true, you can tie my shoe”, not just a rhyme but refers to the time when a lady showing her ankles was a disgrace.
      One of my favorite houses in Savannah, Ga’s historic district was built with 2 sets of stairs going up to the front porch, one set for ladies, one set for gentlemen. That insured the ladies’ dignity and reputation....men got not the slightest view beyond her shoes.
