Hi. Hope someone can help. I saw this ashtray in a local charity shop in the North West of England and from memory of one of my many searches of mid-century Czech glass, Skrdlovice came to mind. Some quick searches of the web came up with this:
https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/236584819/rudolf-beranek-skrdlovice-glass-ashtray?show_sold_out_detail=1#
A very similar ashtray for Skrdlovice by Rudolf Beranek but if you follow the link you'll see no label to confirm. I have seen a few other examples that look very similar in shape but again none with any labels to help confirmation. I've tried my books (Sklo from Mark Hill and Beranek & Skrdlovice by Robert Jones & Jindrich Parik) with no success so am hoping that someone on Collectors Weekly may be able to confirm.
It measures 15 cm x 10 cm x 7 cm (L x W x D) and weighs just over 730 gms.
If anyone can help it would be much appreciated. Thanks
Thanks - yes I tried Andromeda but wrong size and not 'twisted' enough. I'll keep searching
Undoubtedly 1950s Skrdlovice. Lovely piece!
If you wish to find the specific designer and year (and have plenty of patience), you can access the pattern books here: https://www.vcm.cz/vystavy-a-expozice/expozice/expozice-ceske-sklarske-tvorby/?fbclid=IwAR39ZWADWrTQIJhi5DHdnlVWKJ3i6C6XbYv2476Veg9c4_4QqYHL5XddVr8
Anik :)
Thanks - great site and I've already spent a number of happy hours going through the pattern books. I may have a match in the 1956 book and have managed to get a clip of it. I've changed one of my images to show the clip I've managed to get hold of. Any thoughts anyone?
